
Dr. Muhammad Sadiq (1950–2020) stands as a towering figure in Pakistan’s poultry industry. As the President of the World’s Poultry Science Association (WPSA) – Pakistan Branch for over 25 years, he played a pioneering role in modernizing poultry science, bridging academia and industry, and making Pakistan a key player in the global poultry community.
Early Life and Career
Dr. Sadiq was born on July 11, 1950, in Khanewal, Punjab. He graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, in 1974. Just a year later, he ventured into the poultry business by establishing his first poultry farm. With vision, dedication, and innovation, he went on to build one of the largest poultry enterprises in Pakistan—Sadiq Group of Companies.
Building Sadiq Group
Under his leadership, Sadiq Group became a vertically integrated conglomerate covering poultry breeding, hatcheries, feed production, poultry processing, organic fertilizers, and more. By 2013, the group employed over 5,700 people directly and supported over 300,000 families through its network of farmers and distributors. The company reported an annual turnover of over 26 billion Pakistani Rupees, making it a cornerstone of Pakistan’s agro-economy.
Leadership in WPSA Pakistan
Dr. Sadiq’s most enduring legacy lies in his transformational leadership of WPSA Pakistan Branch:
- He served as President for more than 25 years, during which he significantly expanded the organization’s role in academic, technical, and industrial progress.
- He organized three international poultry conferences in Pakistan, bringing together global experts, researchers, and producers to share knowledge and technology.
- He was instrumental in launching Poultry Science Clubs in 12 Pakistani universities, encouraging research, innovation, and student involvement in the poultry sector.
- For his outstanding contributions, he was awarded a Gold Medal by WPSA, recognizing his dedication to the scientific advancement of poultry production.
Contributions to Education and Research
Beyond business, Dr. Sadiq was a strong supporter of veterinary and poultry science education. He founded the Dr. Sadiq Foundation, which offered scholarships to deserving students pursuing careers in animal and poultry sciences. His support extended to laboratory research, curriculum development, and funding academic events across Pakistan.
National and International Recognition
His passing in October 2020 was deeply mourned by the veterinary and poultry communities in Pakistan. The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) hosted a formal condolence reference, where scholars, scientists, and officials paid tribute to his legacy. Many remembered him not only as a business leader but as a mentor, philanthropist, and tireless promoter of poultry science in the country.
